More than 2.04 lakh crimes against women have been registered in Assam over the past 10 years, the State Government informed the Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said a total of 2,04,134 cases were recorded during the period. The cases include 2,677 murders, 14,456 rape cases, 1,463 dowry harassment, and 1,85,538 other offences against women.
The government said the number of crimes against women has been declining in recent years. The number of cases declined from 30,025 in 2019 to 8,958 in 2025. Till June 26 this year, 1,344 cases were registered.
The Chief Minister said the government has introduced measures to improve women's safety, including women's help desks in all districts, the 1091 toll-free helpline, women's cells in every police station, and awareness campaigns.
Sarma added that the government's drive against child marriage has yielded encouraging results.
