The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Saturday, with more than 6.54 lakh people affected across districts and four more deaths pushing this year's flood toll to 66, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). They said that three of the four deaths were reported from Sivasagar district and one from Charaideo, taking the cumulative flood death toll in the state this year to 66.
Sivasagar continued to be the worst-hit district, with nearly 2.9 lakh people affected, followed by Charaideo with around 1.9 lakh and Jorhat with more than 1.3 lakh.
Besides affecting lakhs of people, the floods have damaged agricultural land and adversely impacted livestock and wildlife, adding to the widespread devastation across the state.
Meanwhile, the Dikhou and Dhansiri rivers continued to flow above the danger level at Sivasagar and Numaligarh, respectively.
