The Assam government has decided to withdraw cases against members of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) involved in protests over the NEET paper leak. Authorities will also release those detained during the demonstrations, which took place recently in Assam and other states including West Bengal and Bihar.
The CJP leadership had announced plans to escalate protests unless their supporters arrested in these states were immediately released. This announcement came amid widespread unrest over the leaked NEET exam paper, which ignited large-scale protests in multiple regions.
Those detained in Assam include Guwahati-based advocate Ariful Islam, arrested for taking part in the demonstrations, along with Lakhimpur district residents Manzur Rahman, Ashraful Islam, and Abdul Kasem, who were taken into custody for allegedly creating a WhatsApp group to support the agitation. All four individuals remain in judicial custody.
