The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Wednesday urged authorities not to file First Information Reports (FIRs) against participants in the peaceful July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar, Delhi. CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka stated that many demonstrators remain apprehensive about potential legal consequences despite the protest being non-violent.
The demand comes after the Centre's first formal talks with the CJP since the protest escalated. On Monday, Union Minister J.P. Nadda met CJP spokespersons Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das at his residence in Delhi after the government reportedly reached out for discussions.
Following the meeting, the CJP submitted a written memorandum outlining its demands. Ranka said Nadda had sought more time to consult the BJP leadership before responding. The memorandum also reiterated the CJP's earlier demands, including the release of Sonam Wangchuk, the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and ₹1 crore in compensation for families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide.
