A school picnic turned into a tragedy on October 1, 2026, when eight 16-year-old students from Pune drowned in the Arabian Sea off Diveagar Beach in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.

What Happened?

A group of 48 people—comprising students and teachers from Winners Academy in Alandi, Pune—visited Diveagar Beach for a trip.

During the outing, eight boys ventured into the sea. Strong currents quickly swept them away after they misjudged the depth of the water. Local residents and rescue teams immediately launched a search operation and eventually recovered all eight bodies.

The eight victims of the incident have been identified as:

  5. Rajveer Yuvraj Vahile

  8. Kaustubh Sandeep Daund

Investigation & Safety Concerns

Following the tragedy, local authorities ordered an investigation into the safety measures at the beach and the level of supervision provided during the coaching class trip.
