Russian diesel tanker sets sail for US amid Trump-Putin deal
A Russian diesel tanker has set sail for the United States, marking the first delivery of Russian diesel fuel to the US since July 2023. According to Marine intelligence firm Kpler, the vessel has signaled its destination as New York with an expected arrival on November 7.
This shipment comes under the framework of an agreement reached between former US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The deal had facilitated the resumption of certain energy trade flows between Russia and the United States after a period of restrictions and limited access.
The delivery is significant as it represents renewed energy trade ties amidst global political complexities and ongoing sanctions impacting Russian oil and diesel exports. It is expected to mildly influence diesel supplies in the US market after several months without Russian imports.
The Trump-Putin agreement had been seen as a pivotal step in easing some trade restrictions, and this tanker’s voyage serves as a tangible result of that arrangement. Authorities and market analysts will be observing how this delivery affects supply dynamics in the expensive diesel market in the US.
