General Motors reported a 5.5% year-over-year decline in U.S. vehicle sales in the third quarter of 2026, selling 670,974 vehicles as demand for its all-electric models weakened sharply. Equinox EV sales plunged 92.4% to 1,905 units, while Blazer EV sales fell 84.4% and Hummer EV sales declined 72.9%. These declines followed exceptionally strong EV sales a year earlier, boosted by federal incentives. GM’s limited hybrid lineup leaves it exposed as consumers increasingly turn to hybrids amid high fuel prices.

Toyota reported a 0.6% increase in sales to 633,223 vehicles, supported by strong demand for its electrified lineup. Sales of Toyota’s electrified vehicles, including hybrids, rose 28.5% to 363,367 units, accounting for more than 57% of its quarterly sales. Honda also recorded strong momentum, with U.S. third-quarter sales up 9.3% and hybrid sales exceeding 106,000 units.

GM’s lower-cost models offered some support, with Chevrolet Trailblazer sales rising 51%, Buick Envista 18.4%, and Chevrolet Trax 16.3%. However, all GM brands remained down year-to-date, led by a 25% decline in Cadillac. These contrasting results highlight stronger consumer demand for hybrids and electrified vehicles while GM works to expand its vehicle lineup and maintain its position in the U.S. market.
