Two new cases of scrub typhus have been confirmed at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, bringing the total number of positive cases detected this season to three.
According to Medical Superintendent Dr. Rahul Rao, the latest cases were identified from nine blood samples tested on Monday, while a total of 38 samples have been tested so far. Health authorities have urged the public—particularly farmers, laborers, and those visiting forested or grassy areas—not to ignore symptoms like persistent fever, severe headache, and body aches.
To minimize the risk of infection from larval mites (chiggers), people are advised to wear full-sleeved clothing, avoid direct contact with grass or shrubs, and maintain good personal hygiene, as early diagnosis and prompt antibiotic treatment can successfully cure the bacterial disease.
