In the official ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings update released on September 1, 2026, Australian batter Steve Smith moved up one rank to claim the No. 2 position with 840 rating points.

Smith overtook England's Joe Root, who dropped to third place with 820 rating points. Harry Brook remained at the top of the global rankings with 856 rating points.

Among Indian batters, Rishabh Pant featured as the highest-ranked player at seventh position (713 points), while Shubman Gill slid two places to ninth (709 points). Travis Head (811 points), Temba Bavuma (775 points), and Rachin Ravindra (740 points) occupied the fourth, fifth, and sixth ranks respectively.
