India Extends BRICS Summit Invitation to Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman

India had invited Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman to attend the upcoming 18th BRICS summit and proposed a bilateral visit soon, says External Affairs Ministry.

India had officially invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to participate in the forthcoming BRICS summit in New Delhi. The invitation also includes a proposal for Prime Minister Rahman to undertake a bilateral visit to India.

The invitation was conveyed by the External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, he clarified that the invitation was extended to PM Rahman in his capacity as the Current Chair of the Bay of Bengal initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). The ministry also asserted that the offer for the bilateral visit was extended following Rahman assuming the top office in Bangladesh in February 2026.

This step highlights India’s continued efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties with Bangladesh and promote cooperation in multilateral forums such as BRICS.
