NASA’s Roman Telescope Prepares to Hunt Alien Worlds

NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is officially sealed inside its 43-foot SpaceX Falcon Heavy nose cone at Kennedy Space Center, marking a major milestone ahead of its targeted launch.

Shielded for Ascent

The fairing serves as a protective shell against intense acoustic vibration, atmospheric pressure, and heating during liftoff.

1. The Flight Plan: Targeting launch from Pad 39A, the fairing halves will drop away once above the atmosphere—and SpaceX plans to recover both sections.
2. Destination: The telescope is headed for Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 2 (L2), 1 million miles away, offering an unobstructed view of deep space.
