Assam currently has 7,948 schools that do not meet the ideal pupil-teacher ratio, highlighting a major issue in the state's education system.The minister also revealed that 5,128 schools lack separate classrooms, leading to multi-grade teaching where two teachers often handle students from multiple classes in a single room.
Earlier, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu revealed that 2,670 government primary schools in Assam are single-teacher institutions, which further exacerbates the challenge of providing quality education. Addressing these shortages is critical to improving educational outcomes and ensuring equitable learning environments for students across the state.
