Following heavy rainfall and flash flooding in Nepal, the state governments of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have placed several border districts on high alert due to massive water discharge into shared rivers like the Gandak, Kosi, and Narayani.
In Bihar, nine northern districts—including West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Supaul, and Khagaria—are monitoring rising water levels closely while NDRF teams have been deployed, field personnel leave cancelled, and residents in low-lying villages (such as Sisai, Chibrahi, and Balua) have been evacuated to safer ground.
Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit held urgent meetings with district officials and engineers to coordinate preparations along key embankments and the Valmikinagar Barrage, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached out to Bihar leadership to assure complete central support.
Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed local administrations in Maharajganj and Kushinagar to implement precautionary measures to handle the impending swell in the Gandak and Narayani rivers.
