Indian benchmark indices delivered a strong recovery on Monday, with the Sensex rising 472.77 points (0.66%) to 72,382.47 and the Nifty gaining 133.80 points (0.60%) to 22,555.75.
The rebound reflected improved investor sentiment following recent declines, supported by softer-than-expected U.S. jobs data, easing concerns over aggressive Federal Reserve tightening, and moderation in crude prices.
Buying was broad-based, led by major gainers including ITC, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, Adani Ports, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, and Larsen & Toubro. Brent crude traded near $102.4 a barrel, easing inflation worries.
Investors are now focused on the RBI policy decision and the upcoming earnings season, while foreign institutional investors remain a concern after selling equities worth ₹9,484.22 crore last Thursday.
In corporate news, Anup Bagchi was appointed as the MD and CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance for a three-year term following regulatory approval. He succeeds N. S. Kannan and brings extensive experience from his long tenure with ICICI Bank and its subsidiaries.
