The Seven minors girls from Assam's Dhubri district were reunited with their families after being rescued from Bihar brick kiln abuse ordeal on 4th of August, 2026, under Bihar Police escort. The survivors were subsequently handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after completing all the legal procedures.
According to the officials, the girls were among 47 bonded labourers, including adults and children from economically vulnerable families in Dhubri, who had migrated around 5 - 6 months ago to work at the Star Marka Eint Bhatta in Saharsa district. However, the case surfaced in April after the workers alleged that they were confined at the kiln, forced to work without wages, and subjected to inhuman treatment.
Reportedly, the accused kiln owner, Md. Owais Qarni, along with his associates were later arrested by the Bihar Police under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case against the accused is currently being heard in a Bihar Court.
The case highlights the lack of local livelihood options that forces families into high-risk migration without basic legal safeguards, along with the global concern of Child Labour and Sexual Harassment.
