Delhi court on Tuesday granted self-styled right-wing influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj three-week interim bail in the case involving the alleged assault of the father of a CJP student protester at Jantar Mantar in July.
Bhardwaj was arrested by Delhi Police earlier this month after supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), led by Saurav Das, protested outside the Parliament Street police station and demanded his arrest.
The case gained attention after a widely circulated video podcast in which Bhardwaj, who describes himself as a “kattar Hindu,” allegedly claimed that he had attacked a protester at Jantar Mantar and cracked his skull.
The person allegedly assaulted was the father of a student protester and a resident of Ghaziabad. He suffered a head injury and reportedly required 60 stitches.
In the video, Bhardwaj also allegedly claimed that he avoided jail after a politician intervened. He further said that a case under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), pertaining to attempt to murder, should have been registered against him.
CJP supporters had sought an FIR against Bhardwaj under charges including attempt to murder and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
