The Tamil Nadu government plans to establish a ₹400-crore fintech hub in Coimbatore, aiming to position Coimbatore and Chennai as major centres for fintech-focused Global Capability Centres (GCCs). This initiative seeks to attract investments in technology and digital financial services, create skilled employment, and strengthen Tamil Nadu’s role in the expanding fintech ecosystem.
At the second edition of the GCC Coimbatore Summit, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), S. Vijayakumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries, Investment, Promotion and Commerce Department, stated that India has about 1.9 million professionals working across more than 1,700 GCCs, with Tamil Nadu hosting nearly 460 GCCs. He highlighted that each direct job in GCCs generates three to four indirect jobs.
GCC operations are evolving beyond conventional support functions toward end-to-end process ownership, advanced technology operations, innovation, and research and development. With their infrastructure and skilled workforce, Chennai and Coimbatore are set for increased participation in this transformation, especially in fintech, as Tamil Nadu expands its role in technology-driven business and the digital economy.
