Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar on Monday, August 24, 2026, instructed members and the media not to publicise notices submitted under Rule 55 and adjournment motions under Rule 56 before they are formally admitted by the Speaker. The Speaker highlighted that some members, after submitting written notices to the Speaker and Assembly Secretary, were making these contents public prematurely. He noted that members shared these notices with the media and posted them on their X accounts and other social media platforms.
Prabhakar emphasized that such advance publication is not allowed under Rule 36(5) of the Assembly Rules. He urged members to adhere to the prescribed procedure and called upon the media to refrain from publishing notices before their admission by the Speaker. This directive underscores the Speaker’s admission as a crucial procedural step before Assembly matters can be publicly circulated. It aims to ensure all notices and motions intended for discussion in the House are handled following the Assembly’s established rules and protocols.
