The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, formed an inquiry committee on September 2, 2026, to review the medical records, sequence of treatment, and clinical decisions surrounding the death of 15-year-old Tanvi Pariyani. The Kota resident, who had been treated at AIIMS since October 2012 for a severe congenital heart defect (ventricular septal defect with pulmonary atresia), suffered a hypoxic spell and cardiac arrest early Tuesday morning while admitted for a heart-lung transplant evaluation.
While her family alleged years of procedural delays and postponed surgeries despite paying for estimates and blood deposits, AIIMS officials stated that multi-specialty evaluations determined in 2017 that open corrective surgery was too high-risk and unfeasible due to her missing pulmonary arteries, leading doctors to recommend medical management. The newly formed committee will examine all clinical findings and autopsy reports to address the conflicting accounts.
