Eminent Assamese poet and writer Anis Uz Zaman passed away on September 20, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on February 3, 1947, in Bamunbari village of Sivasagar district, he was also a former member of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) from 1998 to 2004.

Zaman’s academic journey included studies at JB College, Jorhat, and Gauhati University, which shaped his literary career. He began as an assistant editor under Bhabendra Nath Saikia at Gauhati University Publications and later taught at Palashbari RB HS and MP School before retiring voluntarily.

His significant literary contributions include poetry collections such as Agyate, Godhuli, Seujia Jon, Dokmokali, and Ei Batediyei, which explored everyday emotions with sensitivity. His poetry was also translated into Bengali, expanding his reach. Beyond poetry, he authored children’s books and worked as an editor and actor.

Recognized for his cultural contributions, Zaman was honored with the Ganesh Gogoi Award in 2024, named "Jatiya Kobi" by Asam Sahitya Sabha, and received the Gangadhar National Award. He is survived by his wife, Dr Shamim Akhtar, and three daughters.
