Sri Lankan thrower Rumesh Pathirage produced an 88.55-metre throw to win the men’s javelin final at the Asian Games 2026, ending India’s title-defending run in the event.

Indian thrower Yashvir Singh achieved a personal-best distance of 85.72 metres to secure the silver medal, while compatriot Rohit Yadav claimed bronze with a mark of 84.35 metres to ensure a double podium finish for India.

The victory by Pathirage halted India's consecutive gold streak in the discipline. Star athlete Neeraj Chopra, who captured gold in the previous two editions of the Asian Games, was unable to compete in the 2026 tournament due to an injury. Despite missing out on the top spot, Singh and Yadav's performances added two medals to India's athletics tally at the continental event.
