Ajinkya Rahane, 38, has officially announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. The Mumbai-born batsman played his final international match during the second Test against the West Indies at Port of Spain in July 2023. Rahane's international career spanned more than a decade, during which he established himself as a pillar of India's Test team.
Throughout his Test career, Rahane accumulated 5,077 runs in 85 matches, displaying exceptional technique, temperament, and overseas prowess. He served as India's long-standing Test vice-captain and famously led the team to a landmark series win in Australia during the 2020–21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acknowledged Rahane's immense contributions to Indian cricket and wished him well for his future endeavours. His retirement marks the end of an era for a dependable middle-order batsman and respected leader.
