Four patients were injured after a section of the ceiling collapsed inside the Plastic Surgery department of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Thursday, July 30, triggering panic among patients and hospital staff.
According to initial reports, a portion of the ceiling suddenly gave way and fell onto patients undergoing treatment in the ward. Hospital personnel rushed to the scene and shifted the injured patients for immediate medical care.
Hospital authorities said all four injured patients are in stable condition.
Preliminary reports suggest the ceiling had been in a deteriorated condition for a considerable period. The collapse is suspected to have resulted from poor maintenance, though the exact cause will be determined following an official inquiry.
