Indian squash sensation Anahat Singh etched her name in history after winning the World Junior Squash Championships women's individual title in Ontario, Canada, on Sunday (July 27). The 18-year-old became the first Indian to lift the prestigious junior world crown, defeating Egypt's Ruqayya Salem 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 in a commanding final.
After falling short in previous editions, Anahat described the tournament as a "curse" that she finally overcame in her last year as a junior.
Entering the final with a calm mindset, she focused on enjoying the occasion rather than the pressure, a strategy that helped her produce a flawless performance.
Cyrus Poncha, secretary-general of the Squash Rackets Federation of India, described Anahat's triumph as a "historic moment" for Indian squash.
