The Assam government undertaken a vital initiative by providing free textbooks to flood-affected students in three districts (Charaideo, Sivasagar, and Jorhat) on July 30, 2026. The consignment dispatch was flagged off by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu from the Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation Ltd. (ASTPPC) warehouse at Bonda, Guwahati.
In the first phase, seven trucks transported 1,41,719 textbooks for distribution to 1,12,843 flood-affected students. The three districts have over 1.5 lakh students, with nearly 1.12 lakh affected by the floods. A total of around 8.98 lakh textbooks are required for students from Classes I to XII.
Minister Pegu urged district authorities to receive the consignments, store them safely, and ensure timely distribution so that every affected student receives the required textbooks without delay. The Education Department also asserted that distribution will continue until it reaches all needy students, ensuring minimal disruption to their studies.
