On Monday afternoon, July 13, 2026, an Assam Rifles jawan was killed and four others were injured—one critically—in a suspected IED blast in Nagaland's Chumoukedima district.
The explosion struck their convoy near Sukhovi as they were returning to Dimapur. The Security forces launched a search operation while a bomb disposal squad inspected the scene. Local citizens helped evacuate the wounded in private cars.
Officials suspect the blast may be a targeted attack, noting that two Assam Rifles personnel were killed by extremists in neighbouring Manipur last week.
Reacting to the tragedy, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio condemned the blast as a "cowardly act" and said those responsible would be brought to justice to protect the state's peace.
