Banks across the country will operate normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026, following the government's decision to offer customers an additional banking day ahead of the proposed three-day nationwide strike by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). This special Sunday opening applies to Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to help customers complete essential transactions before the strike begins.
The UFBU, representing around 90% of the banking workforce, has called for a nationwide strike from September 28 to 30. Its key demands include implementing a five-day banking week and addressing other employment-related issues affecting bank employees. The strike may disrupt regular banking operations during this period.
Keeping banks open on Sunday aims to reduce disruption by giving customers the opportunity to access banking services immediately before the strike. This additional working day allows customers to complete necessary transactions and manage their banking needs ahead of the proposed shutdown.
