Vote counting for the Rajasthan urban local body elections showed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holding a clear lead over the Congress. The polls were held in two phases on September 9 and 11, 2026, serving as a key indicator of public sentiment before the 2028 Rajasthan Assembly elections. The BJP won 4,179 wards, while the Congress secured 3,613 wards, giving the ruling party a significant overall edge. The BJP also achieved clear majorities in four of Rajasthan’s 10 municipal corporations.
Despite this, the Congress recorded notable victories, including a majority in the Bikaner Municipal Corporation and a significant win in the Jhalawar Municipal Council, which is considered a stronghold of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. These results show the BJP’s broader advantage alongside the Congress' retention of important urban support pockets.
Both parties campaigned intensively given the elections’ wider political significance. The outcome is expected to shape their strategies ahead of the 2028 Assembly polls. Counting proceeded ward by ward until all results were declared, with authorities underscoring adherence to electoral procedures. Following the results, the Congress raised concerns about the electoral process, blaming “unfair” delimitation for impacting its performance.
