Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced several welfare measures and technology initiatives to support lawyers and enhance the state's legal and judicial infrastructure. He noted that before 2017, Uttar Pradesh faced challenges in resources, governance, transparency, accountability, law and order, and judicial infrastructure. Police vacancies stood at nearly 45–50%, and annual police training capacity has increased from about 3,000 personnel to 60,000.
Under the technology push, the government will provide tablets to 400 state law officers to help them access information on government-related cases. Additionally, a cashless insurance scheme with coverage up to ₹5 lakh will be introduced for practising advocates. Financial assistance from the lawyers’ welfare fund will increase from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh, and the age limit for aid to families of deceased advocates will rise from 60 to 70 years. The government will also support furniture and equipment for chambers in a multi-level parking and chamber complex being constructed for over 10,000 lawyers.
Adityanath highlighted the expansion of digital infrastructure across courts and jails, including high-speed internet, video conferencing, virtual recording of evidence, and digitisation of court documents. The prosecution system has been connected to online platforms to facilitate timely charge-sheet filing and presentation of scientific evidence. Integrated court complexes are being developed to house judicial facilities, accommodation for judicial officers, lawyers’ chambers, and other amenities under one roof.
He emphasized that stronger coordination between the executive, police, prosecution, and judiciary can improve the criminal justice system. Adityanath also urged the legal community to prepare for emerging areas such as cybercrime, artificial intelligence, data privacy, e-commerce, fintech, intellectual property, and climate litigation.
