Cricketer-turned-javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage scripted history on Saturday by winning the men's javelin throw title at the Diamond League final in Brussels. The 23-year-old Sri Lankan athlete launched a winning mark of 89.04 metres, outpacing Poland's Dawid Wegner, who secured second place with a best effort of 87.4 metres. With this victory, Pathirage became the first Sri Lankan athlete ever to capture a Diamond League title. Expressing his delight after the landmark achievement, Pathirage noted his pride in winning a major international meet while representing a small country like Sri Lanka.
