Taking suo motu cognizance of recent rape cases across the Delhi-National Capital Region, the Supreme Court of India has called on authorities to enforce strict deterrent measures to prevent crimes against women. Emphasizing the need for a uncompromising stance, Justice JB Pardiwala noted that prevention relies on instilling fear in potential offenders: "Unless you create such fright in criminals' minds ki ab kuch kiya toh mar jaayenge (if we commit such a crime, we'll die), you will not be able to prevent such crimes."
The top court urged regional authorities to deal harshly with those prone to committing sexual offenses across the region. Further directives and official proceedings from the apex court regarding the matter remain awaited.
