Four youngsters drowned in the backwaters of the Sri Ram Sagar Project in Telangana's Nizamabad district while trying to save two young boys, Rehan (8) and Asnan, who had fallen into the water. While local residents successfully rescued the two boys, the four young men could not be saved.
The deceased have been identified as Shaikh Khaleemuddin (24), Shaikh Najwat (24), and Azeem Khan (24)—all residents of Auto Nagar, Nizamabad—and 17-year-old Arhan from Nanded, Maharashtra.
Following the incident, police teams from Armoor Rural, Mendora, and Mupkal—led by Circle Inspector Janreddy—launched a joint search and rescue operation alongside local residents, the NDRF, and the Fire Department. Three bodies were recovered on Sunday evening, and the fourth was retrieved on Monday morning. Authorities have initiated an investigation and are reviewing safety protocols and public awareness measures around the reservoir to prevent similar tragedies.
