American 11th seed Frances Tiafoe produced a sensational five-set comeback at Arthur Ashe Stadium to defeat compatriot Alex Michelsen 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (10-6) in the US Open quarter-finals. After falling two sets behind, Tiafoe survived Michelsen serving for the match at 5-4 in the third set before breaking back and mounting his resurgence.

Despite falling behind 0-3 in the deciding set, the 28-year-old fought back to force a 10-point match tiebreak, which he dominated 10-6 to seal victory after four hours and 38 minutes. The win makes Tiafoe the first American man since Andre Agassi to reach three US Open semi-finals in a single century, while guaranteeing his return to the ATP Top 10 rankings.
