Gulveer Singh continued his rise in athletics at the 2026 Asian Games by winning silver in the men’s 10,000m, finishing the race in 28 minutes 29.38 seconds. This performance improved on the bronze medal he won three years ago, highlighting his progress on the Asian stage. His silver was part of a strong showing by India in track and field.
Baranica Elangovan made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win an Asian Games medal in pole vault. The 29-year-old cleared 4.15 metres at the Paloma Mizuho Athletics Stadium in Nagoya on September 25 to claim a joint bronze with Kazakhstan’s Polina Ivanova. Though below her personal best, this was enough to secure a historic podium finish and mark a milestone for Indian athletics.
India also added another athletics medal through Manpreet Kaur, who won bronze in shot put. Gulveer’s silver, Baranica’s historic bronze, and Manpreet’s bronze together highlighted a productive period for India in athletics at the continental tournament, contributing three track-and-field medals to the country’s campaign.
