Noted Assamese intellectual Dr. Hiren Gohain issued a strong critique of Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi, days after Gogoi’s public criticism contributed to the collapse of the Congress-Raijor Dal alliance.
Gohain acknowledged Raijor Dal's honest workers and his past support for Gogoi on some issues. However, he stated that Gogoi’s overriding objective is personal elevation without limits, disregarding ideals, friendships, and agreements.
According to Gohain, Gogoi aggressively sought a disproportionately large share of assembly seats relative to Raijor Dal’s actual support, causing friction during alliance negotiations. When the Congress resisted these demands, Gogoi publicly criticised the party, harming the alliance’s prospects.
The veteran thinker also accused Gogoi of acting on personal whims without accountability, often leaving collaborators disappointed. He highlighted Gogoi’s inconsistent public stance on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma—ranging from praise to condemnation—indicating unpredictable political positioning.
