During a bilateral meeting with visiting Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov that took place on Monday, August 3, 2026, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar backed Uzbekistan's chairship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for 2027–29, while thanking Tashkent for supporting India's 2026 BRICS chairship. Both nations reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism, extremism, and cross-border sanctuaries, and emphasized opportunities to expand their economic partnership—particularly in rare earth critical minerals, mining, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and education.
