India's Ministry of Power has approved the expedited export of electricity to Nepal to assist the neighbouring country amid severe flooding. The floods have caused widespread destruction, including significant damage to Nepal's hydropower infrastructure, and have resulted in the deaths of over 1,300 people. With parts of Nepal's power infrastructure affected, the approval aims to support Nepal's urgent electricity needs during its recovery.
Under the decision, India will export electricity to Nepal for 18 hours a day, starting September 13 and continuing until December 31, 2026. This fast-tracked power supply is expected to help maintain electricity availability while Nepal works to repair flood-related damages. The move also underscores the close, longstanding energy cooperation between India and Nepal, with India providing critical support during this major natural disaster.
