India has launched its first hydrogen-powered train, operating on an 89-kilometer route in Haryana. The train uses hydrogen fuel cell technology to generate electricity, producing no greenhouse gas emissions and representing a major advance in cleaner rail transport.
India's first hydrogen-powered train is an indigenously developed 10-car trainset driven by a high-capacity 1200 kW hydrogen fuel cell system. Designed to accommodate approximately 2,600 passengers, it has a design speed of 110 kmph and is approved to operate at a maximum speed of 75 kmph.
The clean-energy train will run on an 89 km route in Haryana, connecting Jind Junction and Sonipat Junction via Gohana while serving 12 intermediate halts, including Jind City, Pandu Pindara, and Mohana.
