The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued new guidelines requiring independent audits and frequent inspections of newly inaugurated national highways. This directive follows the discovery of structural defects on the Delhi-Dehradun highway, emphasizing the need for stringent quality control and safety measures across all major projects.

Under the new protocol, all highways recently opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be subjected to these audits to ensure compliance with prescribed safety parameters. The inspections will be conducted periodically to promptly identify and rectify any defects.

The initiative aims to bolster public confidence in the national highway infrastructure by maintaining high standards of construction quality. Officials stated that these measures will prevent recurrence of issues like those encountered on the Delhi-Dehradun stretch and enhance overall road safety.
