Karnataka's electoral roll underwent a significant update with the deletion of 9,976,625 names following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). According to the Election Commission of India, the final general elector count now stands at 45,455,689 on the updated roll.
Prior to the revision process, which started on June 16, Karnataka's electoral roll listed 55,432,314 voters. The SIR process is conducted to remove inaccuracies such as duplicate entries, deceased persons, and ineligible names, ensuring the roll's integrity ahead of elections.
Gyanesh Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka, confirmed the substantial reduction, emphasizing the goal of maintaining a credible and clean voter list. The updated roll is expected to facilitate better election management and prevent potential electoral fraud.
The changes are particularly relevant with upcoming state assembly and national elections, as precise voter data is critical for logistical planning and maintaining the democratic process. Voters are encouraged to verify their inclusion in the updated electoral list to exercise their rights effectively.
