Kerala is experiencing persistent heavy rainfall, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to raise an orange alert in three districts: Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Additionally, six more districts have been placed under a yellow alert as the heavy rains continue to affect the state.
The districts under orange alert are facing increased risk of flooding and landslides due to the ongoing intense precipitation. The yellow alert districts are expected to have significant rainfall, though at a somewhat lower severity.
An orange alert signifies very heavy rainfall ranging from 115 mm to 204 mm, while a yellow alert denotes heavy downpours between 64 mm and 115 mm. Across several regions of Kerala, the severe weather has triggered property damage from uprooted trees and fallen branches, alongside widespread road waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas.
The government and emergency services are on high alert, monitoring the situation closely to mitigate any adverse impacts on residents and infrastructure.
