Heavy monsoon rains and flooding in Kerala have so far resulted in 26 deaths, 11 injuries, and four missing persons, displacing over 27,000 people and forcing more than 18,000 into 400 relief camps across the state. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Alappuzha remain the worst-affected districts, with 52 houses completely destroyed and 565 partially damaged since August 1.
In response, Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan announced enhanced government compensation and relief measures for affected families. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert forecasting continued heavy rainfall across Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and Telangana through August 11, alongside a red alert for Pathanamthitta and Kottayam as floodwaters continue to submerge low-lying areas.
