Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, traded flat in early deals on September 10, 2026, as crude oil prices remained above $100 per barrel and ongoing geopolitical tensions kept investor risk appetite subdued. The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 38.07 points to 74,809.95, while the 50-share NSE Nifty advanced 9.85 points to 23,439.20.
Among Sensex companies, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, State Bank of India, Power Grid, ITC, and Infosys were gainers. In contrast, Mahindra & Mahindra, Adani Ports, Reliance Industries, Sun Pharma, InterGlobe Aviation, and Bharat Electronics lagged. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, traded 0.20% lower at $101 per barrel.
Analysts noted that elevated energy prices, rising U.S. Treasury yields, and ongoing geopolitical tensions weighed on the global macroeconomic outlook and kept risk appetite low. Uncertainty over the possible de-escalation of the Iran conflict also maintained a high geopolitical risk premium in energy markets. Investors are closely watching upcoming U.S. inflation data for indications on the Federal Reserve’s policy direction.
Asian markets, including South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei 225, Shanghai’s SSE Composite, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, traded lower. U.S. markets closed in negative territory on September 9. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth ₹582.99 crore on Wednesday. In the previous session, the Sensex fell 813.35 points (1.08%) to 74,764.23, while the Nifty declined 203.60 points (0.86%) to 23,431.50.
