NASA's Roman Space Telescope Cleared for Launch

NASA’s next-generation observatory, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, has officially passed its Flight Readiness Review and is cleared for final launch preparations ahead of a targeted August 30, 2026 liftoff.

Launch & Next Steps

1. Target Date: Scheduled to launch no earlier than 7:26 a.m. EDT on Sunday, August 30, from Kennedy Space Center.
2. The Ride: The telescope will ride into space enclosed inside the protective fairing of a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket.
3. Final Assembly: Teams are moving the observatory to SpaceX’s pad 39A hangar, where it will be attached to the rocket before rolling out to the pad.
