As part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of Ongole Municipal Corporation, a massive waste-segregation drive will take place across the city for one hour on the morning of September 19. The effort aims to involve all households and thousands of residents in a collective waste-segregation exercise, with the corporation striving to enter the Book of World Records through the scale of public participation. The drive seeks to enhance environmental awareness, cleanliness, and sustainable waste management by encouraging residents to adopt regular waste segregation practices. Municipal employees, volunteers, and participants will coordinate the programme citywide to ensure smooth execution and widespread involvement.
District Collector P. Raja Babu stated the programme is designed to highlight Ongole’s historical significance and position it as an iconic city. He urged municipal employees to shoulder responsibility for achieving this special recognition, emphasizing that the success depends on their collective participation and coordination. This large-scale initiative aims to underscore the importance of community participation in urban sanitation and responsible waste management, while promoting awareness about segregating waste at its source. The corporation hopes the event will not only celebrate the city's 150-year milestone but also inspire residents to embrace long-term, sustainable waste-management habits.
