Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with CEOs and senior executives from leading global and Indian semiconductor companies ahead of Semicon India 2026. This interaction highlights the government's push to expand India’s chipmaking and electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
The meeting followed the formal launch of the second phase of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM 2.0), underlining the sector’s strategic importance. ISM 2.0 has an outlay of ₹1.27 lakh crore and aims to support the entire semiconductor value chain, including manufacturing, R&D, advanced technologies, and supporting industries.
Executives from companies such as Micron, Infineon, ASML, Applied Materials, AMD, Intel, Tata Electronics, Foxconn, NXP, Lam Research, and IBM Research took part in the discussions. Mr. Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a “predictable and responsive policy environment”.
Industry leaders expressed confidence in the opportunities emerging under ISM 2.0 and India’s potential to strengthen its semiconductor capabilities. The upcoming Semicon India 2026 will gather global and domestic stakeholders to explore investment, partnerships, innovation, and supply-chain opportunities, supporting India's broader goal to build a self-reliant semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.
