Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma felicitated Rupamoni Gorh—the first woman from the state to scale Mount Everest—and presented her with a financial reward of ₹10 lakh at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati.

Gorh reached the summit on May 21, 2026, as a member of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police's (ITBP) historic 11-member all-women Everest expedition. Having begun her mountaineering training in 2024, Gorh completed a 24-day journey from India to Nepal and a demanding four-day final push from Base Camp to the peak, overcoming physical hardships like severe headaches, altitude fatigue, and extreme weather.
