Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared that she will return to Bangladesh in December, despite facing the possibility of imprisonment, arrest, or even death. Speaking at an event in New Delhi marking the second anniversary of her ouster from power, Hasina said she was determined to return to her homeland, stating that fear would not prevent her from standing with the people of Bangladesh.
Hasina, who has been living in India since fleeing Bangladesh after the 2024 mass uprising, claimed that the legal cases against her were politically motivated.
The announcement drew a strong reaction from Bangladesh's government, which has repeatedly sought her extradition and criticised India for allowing her to address the media. Hasina currently faces a death sentence in absentia over charges linked to the 2024 crackdown on anti-government protests, allegations she has consistently denied.
