India secured a comfortable six-wicket victory over England in the first ODI at Edgbaston, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Choosing to bat first, England recovered from a middle-order collapse of 107/6 to post a respectable 258, thanks to a resilient 121-run partnership between Joe Root (76) and Liam Dawson (68), while India's Axar Patel starred with the ball, taking 4/62.

In response, India stumbled early at 48/2, but captain Shubman Gill anchored the chase with a graceful 80 before being forced to retire hurt due to severe cramps. Gill's exit triggered a mini-collapse that left India at 160/4, but Axar Patel (57) and Washington Sundar (52) shared an unbeaten 102-run stand to successfully guide India home in 45.2 overs, bouncing back from their recent poor T20I forms.
