Bangladesh's former Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, stated that she plans to return to the country by the end of 2026 despite facing risks. In response, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said Hasina—who has been living in India since being removed from office in 2024, would be arrested and jailed immediately upon her return or surrender.
Shama added that the government would not consider statements from a convicted individual and viewed Hasina’s remarks as an attempt to motivate her supporters who are hiding.
